When we talk about self-esteem, we are generally discussing how we perceive ourselves. When we talk about self-esteem a lot of ideas pop into our mind such as our self-image, self-respect, self-acceptance, self-confidence and self-worth among many others. The biggest question we ought to ask ourselves is DO I HAVE A HEALTHY SELF ESTEEM?

Most people tend to think self-esteem is being able to live a carefree life where you don’t care what other people think of you or prioritizing your happiness and comfort even at the expense of other people’s feelings. Self-esteem most times tend to lean on the extreme positive or extreme negative. There are people whose esteem is extremely positive that they disregard other people’s feelings and advice and this could be dangerous. They also feel that they are good at everything and forget they are humans and have shortcomings.

Extreme negative self-esteem is where a person only notices and fixates on what they cannot do, what they are bad, at and they tend to magnify their weaknesses hence they cannot see a single good thing in themselves.

We need to have healthy self-esteem and to do that you have to understand that you are human, unique in your own way and you have weaknesses that are subject to improvement. You need to find that balance and avoid being too harsh on yourself. Appreciate yourself for those small victories and learn from your mistakes. Remember if you are not making mistakes, it means you are not progressing.

Let’s grow, thrive, and rise together
