Our Mission

Lifted Spirits is a non-profit charity organization that provides emergency relief for Hospitality Industry professionals in the Austin Metro area to ensure our community is able to meet their basic needs in times of crisis or distress.

What We Do

For professionals in the Hospitality Industry, the nature of how we do what we do can create vulnerability when a personal or family crisis interferes with the ability to work.

When disaster strikes, the strain of additional costs and lost workdays can often combine to pose an unreasonable burden on our ability to meet basic needs. Even something minor, like a car inspection or headlight replacement, may pose an unexpected financial strain that could spiral into a greater crisis if not resolved.

Our main priority at Lifted Spirits is to ensure our community members are able to keep a roof over their heads, and avoid the pitfalls of common poverty traps. Whether it’s covering someone when they’re $100 short on monthly bills or pulling out all the stops to raise money to relieve an industry family during a major disaster, we’re here to do whatever we can in support of our community.

This starts now with our $100 No-Interest Microloans, which allows us to leverage a small amount of funding for sustained impact over time. As we grow, we look forward to providing more expansive emergency relief coverage through Direct Financial Assistance. In the meantime, we are dedicated to leveraging the resources we have now to get help where it’s needed.

Who We Serve

Currently Lifted Spirits is providing assistance to professionals in the Hospitality Industry who work in the Austin Metro Area, which we define as follows:

The Austin Metro Area includes the five counties that connect and surround the City of Austin, which are Travis, Williamson, Bastrop, Caldwell, and Hays Counties. We serve those who are employed in the Metro area, but do not require those we serve to live in these counties given that a substantial portion of our Industry comes from surrounding counties outside the Metro area.

The Hospitality Industry is defined based on the 2017 North American Industry Classification System. Within the Hospitality and Leisure Industry we focus specifically on the subsectors of Accommodation and Food and Drinking Places. The following are the major types of businesses within our definition of hospitality:

  • Hotels and Traveler
  • Accommodations
  • Drinking Places
  • Restaurants and Other
  • Eating Places
  • Food Service Contractors
  • Caterers
  • Mobile Food Services
